Program Highlights

This year’s spring fundraising brunch theme informational focus is on our clients with Traumatic brain injury(TBI) and its vocational implications across the range of severity. Speakers include our outstanding colleague and Rehabilitation Medicine physician Dr. Jen Zumsteg as our keynote speaker, with years of experience and research in TBI and especially concussion effects, with special guest  Graci Pennington, Miss Alabama-Miss USA contestant on her mild TBI journey and challenges in return to the university, and our Client of the Year and his experiences trying to find work stabilization following a long path to his  current position as an auditor in training for the state of Washington. Wonderful motivating experiences!

Thank you, Dr. Robert T. Fraser

NVS Spring Brunch Fundraiser Informational focus on TBI

She strives to improve community health and well-being through treatments that optimize function to meet individualized patient goals, providing evidence-based physical medicine and rehab (PM&R) medical consultation, and contributing to safe care and innovation in high-functioning health care teams. She is board-certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation and brain injury medicine.

An Alabama native, Graci Pennington has been a traumatic brain injury advocate for the last eight years. At the age of 11, Graci sustained a mild TBI as a competitive cheerleader. After her recovery, she began competing in scholarship pageants and developed her platform “Heads Up for Head Injuries”. At 14 years old she became a board member with the Alabama Head Injury Foundation and partnered with them to raise awareness for TBI’s. In May she will be a graduate from Auburn University with a degree in broadcast journalism. Today Graci holds the title of Miss Alabama United States and will go on to compete at Miss United States in October. Throughout the next year she plans to reach at least one person in every state who has been impacted by this injury through an interview series. A MESSAGE FROM NVS BOARD PRESIDENT:

"We can't wait to see you in person where the sky will be the limit on May 21st at brunch at the Columbia Tower. NVS Partners all agreed that it will be our privilege to enjoy brunch with you while we celebrate our mission and fundraise to support people with neurological conditions in getting and keeping meaningful jobs in the community. To be able to interact, rejoice and celebrate together after what seems like a two-year slumber, The NVS Board has seen NVSU continue to make strides with job placements in the community, even while state offices have been closed to the public over the last two years. We've also celebrated interns that want to support and learn about the variety of services we offer our job seekers, and with mixed feelings said goodbye to Dora D, a 10-year employee of NVSU who supported the mission day in and day out. As we wake from our winter slumbers, let us also rejoice in spring 2022 which brings all of us together with changes, and stories of hope for new beginnings that only spring can promise. ."
