Training
for Rehabilitation Professionals from NVSU
NVSU (Neurology Vocational Service Unit) offers a variety of
academic and professional training options for rehabilitation
professionals.
Professional
Symposia (on site or your site) Each year our program presents
from three to seven professional training symposia. These are one to three day presentations which are designed for
rehabilitation professionals and graduate level students. They
include intensive reviews of various aspects of vocational
rehabilitation practice, with a focus on neurological populations.Recent topics include " Current Practices in
Neurological Vocational Rehabilitation", "Multiple
Sclerosis Vocational Rehabilitation", and "TBI Vocational
Rehabilitation".Presentations
are made both to general audiences, and specific groups on an
invited basis (i.e. state rehabilitation counselors, individual
graduate school presentations, etc.). In recent years, programs have
been conducted for the Rehab Institute of Chicago, the Ontario Brain
Injury Association, the states of Delaware, Montana, Idaho, Oregon,
Washington, and other organizations.
Rehabilitation
Internships --
These are six to nine month practica which are offered in connection
with formal academic programs in vocational rehabilitation or allied
fields.Participants
are generally masters or doctoral level students who are nearing
the end of their academic studies and wish to have an experience in
applied rehabilitation practice.Rehabilitation Internships are frequently used to satisfy the
practicum or internship requirements of a student's academic
program.They may be
used to satisfy requirements of supervision by certified
rehabilitation counselors in the course of a student's training.Rehabilitation Internships are negotiated on an individual
basis with interested students. Graduate level credits at the
University of Washington may be earned via participation in
vocational rehabilitation internships in our internship programs.
Post
Doctoral Internships --
Persons seeking Post Doctoral Internships are generally graduates of
psychology programs who are interested in developing specific
expertise in the area of vocational rehabilitation, and who are
interested in satisfying licensure requirements.Dr. Fraser offers individual supervision
for each of these goals.A
general internship is offered, although prospective interns are
encouraged to identify and pursue individual areas of interest (e.g.,
applied neuropsychology, research, specific population foci).
Graduate level credits at the University of Washington may be earned
via participation in vocational rehabilitation internships in our
programs.
